LIAD

Tori has been the Executive Director of the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia (LIAD) Center since 2015; however, her history with the organization goes back to 2003, when she began as a Social Worker with the organization then called the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF).

It is under Tori’s leadership that LIAF became the LIAD Center, representing the organization’s continuing evolution to meet the changing needs of the ever-increasing population of those on Long Island who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Tori is a zealous advocate for LIAD Center, pushing the organization to step to the forefront of community and professional education about cognitive impairment. She is a sought-after thought leader on the issues affecting those with memory loss, and has been interviewed by numerous publications and broadcasts, including WBAB, Newsday, and the Long Island Business News. Tori takes this role seriously, using her position as a springboard to create meaningful partnerships with other organizations and potential funders.

Tori also spearheaded the LIAD Center’s efforts to create a program for mental health professionals for which they can earn continuing education credits. Because of the relationships she has built with local hospitals, the LIAD Center will soon initiate caregiver education programs at both Northwell Health Orzac Center for Rehabilitation in Valley Stream and Huntington Hospital, so that our expertise in patient and caregiver support can reach a wider base of affected families. Thanks to Tori’s persistence, LIAD Center’s new mental health counseling services were approved for reimbursement by Medicaid, assuring that those who might otherwise be unable to afford these critically-needed services will have access, and guaranteeing an additional revenue stream for LIAD Center well into the future.

Victoria Cohen was a former hospital senior social worker at NYU Medical Center and has 24 years of experience in geriatrics. In addition, her past employment history also includes work in a mental health clinic with dual diagnosed clients and in a dialysis unit.

Victoria received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Simmons College and Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. She is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers and is a licensed clinical social worker in the State of New York. She is also a member of the LIPN, Central Nassau Rotary and the LIA.
