Cristina Contreras is a passionate and resounding New Yorker and staunch advocate of underserved communities. Born in the Dominican Republic, Cristina arrived in the United States intent on realizing the American Dream. In 1995 Cristina began her career in public service at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island as a Caseworker. She successfully progressed through various positions of leadership within NYC Health + Hospitals, including serving as the Chief Strategy Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi/North Central Bronx and Executive Director of NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx.
Cristina earned her BA in Social Work from Herbert H. Lehman College, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University and an additional Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Baruch College.
Cristina is a proven healthcare leader that is passionate about improving population health within the communities she serves. In her new role as CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan she will bring her experience, candor and passion to engage the East Harlem community and empower them to improve health outcomes and encourage them to live their healthiest life.
