Margaret M. McGovern, MD, PhD, is the Knapp Chair in Pediatrics and Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University and Vice President for Clinical Programs and Strategy for Stony Brook Medicine.

A Distinguished Alumnus of Stony Brook University, Dr. McGovern earned her medical and doctoral degrees at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society, followed by residency training in Pediatrics and fellowships in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. McGovern then joined the faculty at Mount Sinai, where she was Professor and Vice Chair of Genetics and the Program Director of the NIH funded General Clinical Research Center.
In 2007, she became Chair of Pediatrics at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where she led the expansion of the clinical, education and research programs of the department, including the new Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which opened in 2019.

Dr. McGovern is currently responsible for all clinical affairs in the Renaissance School of Medicine, and for the Stony Brook Medicine healthcare system, including its affiliated hospitals, Stony Brook Medicine Community Medical Group and ambulatory network of over 200 locations. She oversees expansion of the network and integration of hospitals and physician groups with the clinical programs of Stony Brook University Hospital and the School of Medicine.
Dr. McGovern also is executive leader of Stony Brook Medicine’s Clinically Integrated Network, which is engaged in significant work to deliver high-quality, high-value care.
