Cathy Kenny
Teacher
Holy Cross High School
Cathy Kenny has been serving as a teacher at Holy Cross high school since the fall of 1985. She grew up in Jackson Heights, New York and attended Our Lady of Fatima grammar school, St. Agnes High School and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, where she met her husband, James. Kenny received her Master of Public Health Administration from Hunter College and her Catholic upbringing was intrinsic in her decision to teach in the private sector. Throughout her thirty five years at the school, she has contributed to the prestige and growth of the school by establishing the Science Research in the High School Program. Students in this program have a unique opportunity to work in the science community doing research with a mentor. Her students have been and are placed in places such as
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, John Jay College, Columbia Medical Center, and NYU Langone Medical Center.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Kenny turned her diagnosis into a teaching experience by starting the school’s annual breast cancer awareness drive – Real Knights Wear Pink. Kenny and her husband James have raised two sons, Peter and Daniel, and are the very proud grandparents of Charlotte, Jackson and Everett.
