James McDermott

James M. McDermott was born on August 21, 1963 in Bronx, New York. Six months later he and his family moved out to Wantagh, New York.
James graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School, Wantagh New York in 1981. After graduating, he attended Nassau County Community College until he joined the New York City Police Department on January 4, 1984. James worked in the Brooklyn North Precincts until October 23, 1987 when he joined the Nassau County Police Department. After graduating from the Nassau County Police Academy in April, 1988, he was assigned to the 5th Precinct in Elmont, New York.
In January, 1995, James became a 5th Precinct Delegate of the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association. James moved up the ranks in the Union becoming the 5th Precinct Trustee in October of 2001 before being elected to the Nassau County PBA Executive Board on February 17, 2005 as Sergeant At Arms. It wasn’t until January 30, 2017 that James McDermott became President of the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association, a position he still holds today.
James has three sons, Patrick, 25, James, 23, and Colin, 11.
